The Philippines is about a two-day flight, including layovers and time differences, so here it goes...
When booking a flight, please set your destination to Manila, Philippines(MNL-Ninoy Aquino International Airport); please book the dates May 1st* through the 9th; that way you'll reach the Philippines Friday the 2nd, 3 days before the wedding, and leave the 9th and still arrive in the US the same day(Philippines is 12-14 hours ahead; depending on where you are in America). There is a single layover from the United States to Manila; typical countries for layover are Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong, and Japan. When choosing your layover, please consider the layover time; the usual flight time to these layover countries is 12-14 hours, so you would want to have a more extended layover to relax(Jon and I spend our layover time eating Asian food and relaxing) and find your next gate (we suggest 2-4 hrs). Your next(2nd) flight is now to Manila, Philippines.
*Typical flights leave around midnight. So if you book a flight on May 1st and the flight leaves at 12:10am or 12:30am you have to be at the airport on April 30th 3-4 hours(international flights) before your flight so around ~9pm.
You will land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport TERMINAL 3 in Manila. You will need to pass immigration before getting your baggage, and depending on what time you get there, immigration could be very busy.
Your final destination is not Manila but Davao City, which is a city in the southern part of the Philippines. You will need to book a SEPARATE airline ticket** for this(book at the same time as your other ticket). Please book the airline PHILIPPINE AIRLINES(PAL) as they have a free shuttle(this is important for later). Your destination should be DVO-Francisco Bangoy International Airport. All international flights in Manila land at TERMINAL 3; you will need to take a FREE shuttle, which is located outside of the terminal, to TERMINAL 2; this terminal is solely for domestic flights. The flight to Davao City is about 1-2 hours; we will pick you up and take you to an AirBnB where you can rest overnight before driving(~3hrs) to the wedding venue.
**When booking your Manila-Davao(round trip) flights please make sure that you have enough time to reach your main flight from Manila to the US; remember you still need to take a shuttle to specific terminals and pass immigration. The key is online check in so you go straight to bag drop off.

Another travel option is to take USA>SINGAPORE>DAVAO route. You will take the same amount of flights(3 flights) but you will bypass Manila and arrive straight to Davao City. Manila is the capital city of the Philippines so it is a busy place(Jon hates it!). This option is a bit pricey since there is no direct flight from the USA to Singapore; you will still need to do a layover in the above mentioned asian countries and then book another flight from Singapore to Davao city via SCOOT airlines(a budget friendly Singaporean airlines) for nonstop option.
CHANGI Airport in Singapore is one of the best airports in the world; there are multiple hotels and malls inside the airport if you want to rest before taking another flight to your destination(Davao City). We personally haven't tried this route but it is such a great option to try to bypass the hustle and bustle of Manila. Again, we highly recommend you to arrive Davao City on May 2nd(anytime).
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about the travel. We'd love to help you book all your flights with you if that makes it easier; we're just a call away; or for those who are just in Illinois we can always come out to you and show you or even fly with you ;-)
